Spinal Stenosis / Neurogenic Claudication
Neurogenic
Claudication refers to a variety of symptoms, such as lower extremity
numbness and tingling, weakness in the legs, radiating pain that
is relieved by leaning forward, and difficulty with urination, that
occur when the spinal nerves in the lower back are compressed. When
the spinal canal’s dimensions have been reduced to the point
that the patient develops symptoms, then the term spinal stenosis
(narrowing) is used. Compression usually occurs secondary to age
related degenerative changes. The treatment for this condition is
surgical decompression, which usually results in relief.
